Part 3 – Cheap Flight to CES
The Digital Dynamo: Who Said You Can’t Get a Good AirFare 4 Days To Your Event? My CES Journal
And here is what I did 4 days from my trip to get a
Round Trip Non-Stop Flight for $248.00
($500 discount from PriceLine.com)
One – I decided to look at airports that were less that a 5 hour drive to Las Vegas – Phoenix, Arizona, Las Angeles, California & Utah. Then I went to GOTOBus, to see if I could get one of those cheap bus trips to Las Vegas. I decided to go this an AirFare to Los Angeles, the bus RT would be under $50. If I could get a flight for $350 or under that would work. But again, 4 days from the event – not a likely scenario. But
Check Kayak first just to see how the prices compare LA to LV. Then decided to try Priceline.com. My concern was that bidding for a low airfare on PL would give me a 3 stop over to who knows where, and then I would be stuck with it because you have to pay for the flight before you know the stopovers etc. So to protect my funds, I bid a ridiculous low price – $190.0 RT to Las Angeles, California. At least this way I could see what they would like to counter with. Normally PL will say we can’t give you this price, and the average cost is $650 RT, and we normally give 40% off. So I bid $190.00 and I say Captain Kirk posing in a karate stance on the screen – “fascinating” and then to my surprise – they came back to say if I could extend my flight one day, which I could because it would be on a Sunday – then they would quote me at RT price including fees/taxes of $248.00. WHAT! $248, then I got scared again, what if I end of having stopovers in Kookamunga, changing bags with 20 minutes between flights. Oh Dear Oh Dear, woe is me what should I do. Well, as Kirk would say on the Priceline Commercial – Don’t be a mamby pamby ( mamby pamby a person who engages in acts of cowardice, shyness, or stupidity). So I hit the button, and I got a Non-Stop Round Trip on Virgin America Airlines. The time of departure of 3:30pm and return for 7:30am on Sunday. All which was perfect for me.
