Am I excited to go to travel to Madrid Spain? You Bet! It has been a long time coming.

Having always hope to start traveling to other cultures and meeting and sharing with new friends – this is my Launchpad debute. I do not know where it will go from here. But it has been a goal for many years.

Couldn’t Speak French, So Why Bother looking further

I always felt I had a “tin” ear when it comes to learning new languages.

It probably started back in the 60′s at my junior high school French 1o1 class. When my very stern French teacher said asked me to “close the book” and I got up and open the window, instead. She the bellowed  “Stupide!” Of course, everyone in the classs laughed and I thought, well I guess it will take me longer to learn this stuff than I thought.  Needles to say,  I flunked the class, took it again the following year and got a “B”.

So what I learned was that -each person has their own unique God-given pace. Give yourself the time, space and a supportive environment – and you can accomplish practically anything.

Now I am finally making my first trip. So – I have asked my fellow travelers who are also going to Madrid, Spain to share their thoughts, tips and experiences. Our group had all levels of travel experiences. Some are veterans, others are newbies like myself! We we all share a common bond of “Crossing Borders, Sharing Lives”.

So please share about your travel experiences, tips and thoughts.

My first international trip was to Spain. I flew into Madrid alone but I was going to meet up with my friend who had been living there for 6 months in another region in Spain. I had a separate flight to Alicante on SpanAir (and they don’t speak English). What I learned in getting to and just sitting the airport in Madrid was that the Spanish … Read Morethey teach is school is slightly different (every county pronounces words somewhat different and even use different words all together) and that tortillas aren’t what you think they are. Other things: When the plane lands in Madrid don’t be surprised if everyone applauds. On my KLM flight from Amsterdam to Madrid, the flight attendants gave announcements in English, Dutch and Spanish – I didn’t understand the English at all but was able to understand the butchered Spanish because mine is butchered as well. Also, Madrid is a very clean city and the subway system is as well. I recommend the open top buses to tour the city even in October. One last thing, as someone who doesn’t like eggs, I was taken aback that a sunnyside up egg could end up in anything from spaghetti to a sandwich. OK, one more thing, make sure you eat some paella. http://www.kenyaallmond.me
